They kicked you out of the pub again.
It's only what... four? five?
[[> 4 AM|4]]
[[> 5 AM|4]]
[[> 4:30 AM?|4]]It doesn't matter. What matters is, how to get home now.
You don't remember there being three paths.
[[> Take the left one|left]]
[[> No, the right one|left]]
[[> This one is...even more right?|left]]You stumble alogn the path. It seems to be moving beneath your feet.
Suddenly, a dark figure stands before you, next to a tree.
[[> "Halt yourself!"]]
[[> "Are you the devil?"]]"No!" you cry out, and start to run.
Unfortunately, running in the dark is seldomly a good idea. You remember the tree next to the figure a little too late, when you run right into it.
The dark figure strolls up next to you.
"Hi. I am the devil." says the creature, and you believe it.
[[> uh-oh.]]"Halt yourself!" you shout.
Not you would have needed to should, since the dark figure is standing right before you. Talking at a regular volume would have totally sufficed.
"Hello. I am the devil." says the dark figure and you believe it.
[[> uh-oh.]]There is something off about this figure.
"Are you the devil?" you ask, fearfully.
"Indeed I am." says the devil.
[[> uh-oh.]]"Oh... hi. Nice to meet you..." you say.
This is bad news. You can't be seen out here talking to the devil. You need to get rid of them, and quickly.
[[> "Are you hungry?"]]
[[> "You wanna see something cool?"]]
[[> "Can you help me find my cat?"]]"Not really, I just had a very early breakfast." the devil says.
That didn't work.
Time is running out!
[[> "You wanna see something cool?"]]
[[> "Can you help me find my cat?"]]"U-huh? Yeah sure." says the devil.
"If you climb up this tree, you can see the Eiffel Tower!" you say. It is, of course, a lie.
"That sounds a lot like a lie to me." replies the devil, sceptically. "Isn't the Eiffel Tower in Paris?"
"Go on, see for yourself if you don't believe me!", you exclaim.
"Fine. I guess."
The devil climbs up the tree.
[[> Get out your pocket knife]]"Of course!" says the devil. "I love cats!"
You smile. "Who doesn't am I right??"
The devil smiles "Yeah, cats are great. I love their fur and stuff."
You smile "Yeah, mee too."
You say: "Well anyway, my cat climbed up that tree and I can't get it out. Can you go get it for me?"
"Oh of course." says the devil and starts climbing up the tree.
[[> Get out your pocket knife]]The devil has reached the top of the tree. "I can't see it anywhere!"
"Just keep looking!" you say, moving closer to the tree.
Now is your chance!
[[Carve the sign of the cross into the trees bark]]You carve the sign of the cross into the trees bark.
"Wait, what are you doing down there?" asks the devil, worried.
Fortunately, the sign is already completed.
"Oh, I just carved the sign of the cross into the bark so you can't get down from the tree."
"Aw man, why would you do that?"
"Sorry man, I really can't be seen hanging out with you. With you being the devil and all."
The devil pouts.
[[> Rethink your actions]]On second thought, you realize that you're being kind of an ass here. The devil didn't do anything bad to you.
"Ok fine, I'll cross out the cross..."
"Oh cool, thanks."
"... under one condition!"
"We can hang out but you have to turn invisible or something so noone sees you."
"You said ONE condition!"
"When I die, you're not gonna take my soul."
"Yeah alright whatever, just get me down here."
[[> Let the devil down]]You let the devil down and you hang out with him until the morning hours.
You meet again the next weekend, and the weekend after.
Over the following years, you become good friends.
[[> Die]]After a life of sin, drinking, and lies, you die from an unknown cause.
Will the devil keep his promise? Or will he betray you. He is the devil after all.
[[> Go to the gates of hell]]You greet your friend the devil. "Hey man, it's freezing out here. You letting me in or what?"
The devil looks to the ground, sadness in his eyes. "Sorry man. A promise is a promise."
"Yeah but I mean... I won't tell anyone."
"Naw man, no can do."
You see that the devil cannot be convinced. He seems to feel bad for you though.
"But I'll tell you what. Here's a piece of burning coal straight from hell. It will keep you warm. But don't touch it or you'll burn your hands."
"Alright thanks I guess. Would've been cooler if you'd let me in but whatever. This is fine too."
[[> Place the burning coal in a turnip]]You place the coal in a hollowed out turnip, so you don't burn your hands on it.
[[> Roam the lands forever]]With the devil not letting you into hell, and heaven not being an option, you spend the rest of eternety looking for a place to stay.
Whenever you look at your warm turnip, you remember the warm smile of your best friend the devil.
[[> The end]]Thanks for playing.
